how to make your kid's birthday special

Resist the urge to go overboard and try one or two of these easy birthday traditions for your child. We promise they'll be thrilled!

Give Her a Balloon "Wake-Up Call"

When it's time for the birthday kid to rise and shine, stand over the bed and shower them with a laundry basket full of balloons and pieces of curled ribbon. Or scatter balloons in her room after they've fallen asleep the night before so they wake up to a sea of color.

Breakfast in Bed

Surprise your birthday kid with a special breakfast in bed. It doesn't need to be fancy, just something that will make them smile. Put a few pieces of confetti on the tray or make a mini-bouquet of fresh flowers to set the tone.

Choose a Special Outfit

Keep your child's special day even more special by allowing them to choose a special outfit to wear. It doesn't need to be anything expensive or fancy, but it can be something that's a bit more dressy than usual.

Create a Birthday Crown

Have your child create their very own birthday crown. This can be as simple as taking a piece of construction paper, folding it in half, cutting out a crown shape, and decorating it with glitter, markers, and other craft supplies.

Decorate the House

Have your child help you decorate the house for their special day. Hang streamers, balloons, banners, and other decorations in their favorite colors. You can even make a special birthday sign that they can keep and hang up in their bedroom.

Write a Birthday Letter

Take some time to write a special letter to your child on their birthday. Let them know how much you love them and what a special person they are.

Take a Birthday Trip

Instead of a party, go on a special outing or day trip with your child. This can be anything from a simple picnic in the park to a road trip to a nearby town.

Make a Birthday Time Capsule

Turn an empty jar, canister or shoebox into a miraculous time capsule. A time capsule lets you record your child's treasured recollections and mementos from the past 12 months. Add photos and items of their favorite things and experiences – they will be delighted at discovering these years down the road!

Make a Birthday Card

Create a special birthday card for your child and include heartfelt messages, photos, and even a little craft. This will be one of the most cherished cards they'll ever receive, and it will really show how much you care.

There are so many fun things you can do together with your child to make their birthday special.  Pick one or two of these easy birthday traditions and enjoy the time spent with your child!
